Papua New Guinea, Deepsea Mineral Resources Survey (MBES) Bathymetry, 1992, Dataset #1

A Joint Basic Study by the South Pacific Applied Geosience Commission (SOPAC) and the Government of Japan undertaken for marine geological and other studies relating to mineral prospecting to assess the mineral resources potential of the deep sea bottom in the offshore regions of SOPAC member countries.
This metadata entry presents survey carried out in the sea area of about 74,000km2 (the western half of the Bismarck Sea) which belongs to Papua New Guinea, from August 13 through October 19, 1992. The survey was composed of topographic cruising for topographic mapping, geochemical explanotory sampling for bottom sediments and geological deposit survey for confirmation of deposits and ore sampling.
