Solomon Islands Marine Atlas

Solomon Islands is composed of almost 1000 islands and has the second longest coastline and the second largest Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Pacific. These physical characteristics and the unique society and culture of the population are the basis of the fundamental relationship that Solomon Islanders have with the ocean. The Marine Atlas for the Solomon Islands compiles over a hundred datasets from countless data providers and for the first time makes marine and coastal information accessible and usable as data layers and as raw data. Using the Atlas as a support tool, decision makers from all sectors can appreciate the value of marine ecosystems and the importance of spatial planning in managing these ecosystems. Practitioners can assist these planning processes using the accompanying data layers and raw data in their geographic information systems (GIS). The Solomon Islands Marine Atlas was prepared by the Marine and Coastal Biodiversity Management in Pacific Island Countries (MACBIO) project.
