* prescribe a protected area for the terrestrial and marine resources of the Phoenix islands.
* prescribe particular licences and permits for regulating certain activities in the Phoenix Islands Protected Area and to establish a schedule of penalties for all activities affecting the Phoenix Protected Area
* implement the Cabinet decision of approving the nomination of the Phoenix Islands protected Area to the World Heritage Committee

This study seeks to estimate and quantify the total economic costs of the inadequate water supply and sanitation situation in Kiribati’s main urban center, South Tarawa. This report outlines a baseline assessment of the water quality, sediment quality and aquatic ecology of the Metapona River system downstream of Gold Ridge Mine, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. The assessment was conducted on behalf of the Ministry of Environment, Conservation, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology in the Solomon Islands Government. This assessment will provide the framework to establish an integrated environmental monitoring program for the Metapona River system.

This paper investigates the water quality of the densely populated lagoonal coasts in Fongafale Islet, and the occurrence of water pollution. A comparison was then made with less populated natural coast in the islet. The primary pollution sources and pollution mechanism were identified. Through this investigation, the need for effective water quality control measures for coastal conservation is demonstrated.
