An open access geospatial data repository for the Pacific Region providing premier geophysical, geodetic, and marine spatial data sets. Developed through collaboration between the GeoScience, Energy and Maritime Division of the Pacific Community (SPC), University of Sydney, Geoscience Australia (GA), and GRID-Arendal.
This record shows an Air Photo Interpretation of the geology and morphology of Tabiteuea in Kiribati. The map was produced as part of the CCOP/SOPAC Coastal Mapping Workshop that was held in Kiribati in 1988. 1968/69 and 1984 photo sets of Air photograph interpretation of South Tarawa, and the Southern part of North Tarawa was used. However, plotting of recent (July 1988) re-surveys of beach profiles on Betio and Bairiki and comparison with earlier surveys were made. The map was prepared by Mark Urvois who was doing Data Management at CCOP/SOPAC.

The report gives details and preliminary findings of a scientific cruise undertaken on R/V Melville in 2006 within the Lau Basin of Fiji as part of the Ridge 2000 programme. The cruise involved biological, geological, and chemical studies of hydrothermal systems in the Lau Basin and multibeam mapping of the sea floor. The New Guinea region evolved within the obliquely and rapidly converging Australian and Pacific plate boundary zone. It is arguably one of the most tectonically complex regions of the world, and its geodynamic evolution involved microplate formation and rotation, lithospheric rupture to form ocean basins, arc-continent collision, subduction polarity reversal, collisional orogenesis, ophiolite obduction, and exhumation of (ultra)high-pressure metamorphic rocks.
