  • Wind resource measurements have been carried out on Funafuti but only at the 30-metre level. An average wind speed of 5.79 m/s was recorded, and the consultant making the assessments recommended installation of small turbines in the 20–50 kW range as there is no crane on Tuvalu capable of installing larger turbines. This wind resource monitoring equipment was supported by the SOPAC, UNDP and Government of Denmark under the PIEPSAP Project.

This record captures Tuvalu petroleum product imports for the period 2006 - 2014.  Data is captured monthly and by fuel type: Diesel (ADF) Unleaded petrol (ULP, also known as benzene at the retailers) Kerosene - dual purpose kerosene (DPK).

Data was sourced by the Tuvalu Department of Energy directly from the fuel importers and aggregated here by fuel type. Listed below are the various importing parties by Tuvalu over the years:

This paper highlights the seriousness of the “biodiversity crisis” on atolls and the need to place greater research and conservation emphasis on atolls and other small island ecosystems. It is based on studies over the past twenty years conducted in the atolls of Tuvalu, Tokelau, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands and the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia. It stresses that atolls offer some of the greatest opportunities for integrated studies of simplified small-island ecosystems.

In March 1993, a SEAFRAME (Sea Level Fine Resolution Acoustic Measuring Equipment) gauge was installed in Funafuti. Readings(height observations) recorded from the gauge, is held in this record and provided in the form of Yearly Reports, Tide Prediction Calendars and Hourly Sea Level and meteorological data (update frequency- real time) from the Funafuti station. This is downloadable from the Distribution Info Section of this metadata record. The gauge has been returning high resolution, good scientific quality data since its installation.

This record holds the Bathymetry datasets of the offshore areas of Nui Atoll island in Tuvalu. The dataset are in XYZ text delimited format . Nui is a N-S elongated atoll island approximately 8.1 km long and 2.5 km wide, centred on 7 degrees 13'S and 177 degrees 9'E.

Nanumea is an elongated atoll 13 km long along the NW-SE axis, and 2.4 km wide along the SWNE axis, centred on 176 degrees 6'E and 5 degrees 39'S. The surveyed area extends to a maximum of approximately 5.3 km offshore from the coastline at the northwest tip of the atoll.
The resultant data from the SOPAC marine survey conducted in 2004 was used to produce nine bathymetry charts for Tuvalu at scales ranging from 1:20 000 to 1:50 000 and the Nanumea bathymetry chart is available here for download under the Distribution Info.
