The following topics were included in the survey: tobacco use, alcohol consumption, diet, physical activity, history of raised blood glucose, history of raised blood pressure, history of raised total cholesterol, and lifestyle advice. Additionally, the following measures were taken: blood pressure, height, weight, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol. Finally, the following optional modules were included: oral health and violence and injury.

The Tongan NCD Risk Factors STEPS survey was a nation wide cross sectional assessment of 18 to 64 year olds carried out in from 12th of March to the 5th of May 2017 using WHO STEPS surveillance methodology and instruments.

The Nauru-STEPS was a nation-wide representative survey of 15 to 64 year olds with the following objectives:
1. To document the national prevalence and patterns of tobacco use, alcohol consumption, dietary behaviours, physical activity, body mass index, elevated blood pressure, and biochemical markers such as blood glucose and blood lipids in Nauru.
2. To provide reliable and up-to-date information on NCD risk factors for planning and evaluating public health initiatives, and for identifying future demands for health services in managing and treating NCDs.
