This dataset shows the global distribution of coral reefs in tropical and subtropical regions. It is the most comprehensive global dataset of warm-water coral reefs to date, acting as a foundation baseline map for future, more detailed, work. This dataset was compiled from a number of sources by UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and the WorldFish Centre, in collaboration with WRI (World Resources Institute) and TNC (The Nature Conservancy).

The project was commissioned by BMUB to GIZ as part of IKI, jointly implemented by SPREP, IUCN and GIZ from 2013 to 2018.

A recently published paper, titled “Coastal proximity of populations in 22 Pacific Island Countries and Territories” details the methodology used to undertake the analysis and presents the findings. **Purpose** * This analysis aims to estimate populations settled in coastal areas in 22 Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTS) using the data currently available. In addition to the coastal population estimates, the study compares the results obtained from the use of national population datasets (census) with those derived from the use of global population grids.

1. Resurvey and delineation of the sand resource of eight beaches on Tongatapu
2. Evaluation of the extent of recent coastal changes on Tongatapu including changes effected by cyclones and other natural events, beach sand extraction, and interaction between the two.
3. Investigation of the rate of sand production and implications for the sustainability of beach mining.

This record shows a track plot map undertaken during the Betio Mole Extension Survey in Kiribati in 1981. It was part of the Tarawa Nearshore Project that was under the work programe element of CCOP/SOPAC CCSP-1/KI.4 (Surveys for Landfill/Construction Materials) and CCSP-1/KI.5 (Coastal Zone Surveys on Sedimentation, Erosion and Pollution Problems). There are another 9 accompanying sheets that are linked to this map belonging to the same project.
