Vanuatu National Agriculture Sector Policy 2015 - 2030

This Agriculture Sector Policy (2015 - 2030), underpinned by social, economic, ecological and cultural principles and sustainable development pillars, is organized around 13 thematic areas. Two thematic areas, namely Research & Development and Production & Market Access, support all sustainable development pillars. The social pillar is directly addressed in the thematic areas of Institutional Setup, Capacity Building, and Gender & Vulnerable Groups. The issues of economic development are covered in the thematic areas of Finance, Investment & Employment, and Market Access. The thematic areas which contain environmental issues include Land Use, Planting Materials, Environmental Protection & Sustainable Farming and Climate Variability, Climate Change & Disaster Risk Management.

Within the thematic areas, the Policy contains a national consensus on over 39 policy directives and 145 strategies with the view that if properly and cooperatively implemented, the agriculture sector would be substantially more resilient and able to generate additional employment within the formal sector, increase GDP, supply nutritional food sources, adapt to climate change and provide for lasting and culturally founded livelihood security for the people of Vanuatu.
