Demand Side Management Project : Review and report on the current status of DSM activities within SOPAC member country electric power utilities; determine the most appropriate technologies and methodology for the implementation of a DSM programme; prepare a detailed programme design; and the implementation,management and reporting for at least three demonstration DSM projects.
Economic Potential of Renewable Energy : Full feasibility studies of applicable / possible renewable energy projects for the region.
Regional Biomass Resource Assessment : To assess the biomass resource in a number of member countries (Cook Is, Fiji, FSM, Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu) and to prepare a management plan for the future effective use and management of the resource. This project helped ensure that member countries are able to better assess and manage their relatively scarce biomass resources.

COCOGEN Project : A number of Pacific Island countries have started to consider biofuels as a strategic renewable energy option. First successful trials to use straight coconut oil (CNO) have been undertaken in Fiji, Marshall Islands New Caledonia and Vanuatu. Both the University of the South Pacific and the University of Papua New Guinea have started scientific research on the subject. In general opportunities exist to utilize CNO and other vegetable oils as an alternative fuel for transport and electricity generation. Thus the objectives of this project were to;
