This contains 10 field reports of 10 ocean planning teams in 201, that conducted Solomon Islands first round of consultations to the nine Provinces and Honiara, towards the development of a National Marine Spatial Plan by 2020. The national initiative is lead by MFMR and MECDM as mandated by the Ocean12 (a body comprising of 12 key ocean-Ministries) as per the Solomon Islands National Ocean Policy. Funding and technical support were provided by IUCN, GIZ and WCS through the PEUMP Project. These 10 reports will be annexed to the main Ocean Planning first round consultations report.
Dataset contains training material on using open source Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to improve protected area planning and management from a workshop that was conducted on October 19-23, 2020. Specifically, the dataset contains lectures on GIS fundamentals, QGIS 3.x, and global positioning system (GPS), as well as country-specific datasets and a workbook containing exercises for viewing data, editing/creating datasets, and creating map products in QGIS.
Regional data on marine pollution. Observation pollution event
This dataset contains mapping information (shapefile) of reefs in Tuvalu including its distribution. A foundation baseline map for future, more detailed, work.
Perceived threats can be summarised as arising from deleterious human actions and negative attitudes to the environment, leading to inappropriate behaviour, such as littering, over-fishing and hunting, using fishing nets and modern fishing method, the use of guns and the introduction of pests; the use of inappropriate technologies, such as solid and liquid waste water disposal systems; uncontrolled use of resources and control of livestock; increasing consumption patterns, arising from increases in human populations, demands and changing lifestyles; institutional weaknesses; ignorance and l
Presenting the estimated areas of different land use/land cover types present in Tuvalu. This data was presented in both the 4th and 5th national reports to the CBD.
This data presents the value and volume of estimated fisheries catches and aquaculture harvest in the year 2014. It was presented in the 5th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Data extracted from the 'Fisheries in the PICs' report, 2016. From the table, it can be seen that, in 2014, foreign-based offshore fishing in the Tuvalu zone produced 96,898 mt of fish, with an in-zone value of US$132 million (A$161 million).
Studies of the benefits to Pacific Island countries and territories from fisheries (“Benefish” studies) have been carried out in the past. Gillett and Lightfoot (2001) focused on the year 1999, Gillett (2009) focused on 2007, and the present study focuses on 2014.
The fishery production levels for Tuvalu from those three studies are presented in this data.
Waste audit and interview data collected by APWC in October 2019.
The ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM) Version 3 (ASTGTM) provides a global digital elevation model (DEM) of land areas on Earth at a spatial resolution of 1 arc second (approximately 30 meter horizontal posting at the equator).
The development of the ASTER GDEM data products is a collaborative effort between National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI). The ASTER GDEM data products are created by the Sensor Information Laboratory Corporation (SILC) in Tokyo.
Atlas of Living Australia data on invasive alien species in Tuvalu
Between March 12 and 14, 2015, Tropical Cyclone Pam struck Vanuatu as an extremely destructive Category 5 cyclone, with estimated wind speeds of 250km/h and wind gusts that peaked at around 320km/h. This assessment provides estimates to the the damages and losses, and identifies the needs of the affected population.
Spatial dataset for reefs in Vanuatu. Source: Institute of Marine Remote Sensing (IMARS).
* Attribute details on reef type: barrier atoll-bank, barrier island, fringing island, land, non-reef, patch atoll-bank, patch island.
* Attribute details on depth: deep, land, shallow, variable.
List of international environmental related agreements and conventions to which Vanuatu is obligated to.

There are not perfect data which describe the distribution and abundance of every marine habitat and species in the Pacific. And certainly not at a scale that is useful for national planning in the ocean. Bioregionalisation, or the classification of the marine environment into spatial units that host similar biota, can serve to provide spatially explicit surrogates of biodiversity for marine conservation and management. Existing marine bioregionalisations however, are at a scale that is too broad for national governments in the Pacific to use.
Vanuatu Protected Areas (PA) data from the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA), downloaded August 2019. This dataset includes both tables and spatial data.
