This report was prepared by Keron Niles and Bob Lloyd. Article is published in the Journal of Energy For Sustainable Development This paper asserts that the current dependence of Caribbean and pacific SID's on both development assistance from donor agencies and imported fossil fuels are not coincidental, but rather, it was due to the transition of these islands from subsistence agriculture to export-oriented economies, primarily to serve the interests of more developed metropolitan countries.
This report was prepared by Keron Niles. A thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.Produced by the University of Otago, New Zealand.
This report was prepared by S D Sharma, G J Duffy and J H Edwards of CSIRO Energy Technology for the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in Japan. The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), an administration and implementation arm of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in Japan has contracted CSIRO Energy Technology to undertake research on actual and potential renewable energy uptake in South Pacific countries.
This report was prepared by the World Bank and in cooperation with The UNDP and ESCAP. The Pacific Regional Energy Assessment (PREA) reviews issues and options associated with energy development in the Pacific island countries. The Overview Report presents the findings and recommendations of regionwide interest emerging from an assessment of the energy sector in 12 PICs.
The attached paper, by Scott Hook, was written for Ausaid as a background research paper for the 2009 Pacific Economic Survey. The paper seeks to explore renewable energy challenges in the Pacific by reviewing several case studies. Energy plays a vital role in contributing to development in the Pacific region. It is a fundamental input to most economic and social activities and invaluable in key sectors such as education, health and communications. However, cost effective energy is a significant logistical challenges for connecting communities important for states that are distant from
This report was prepared by Murray Ward for the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme. On the one hand, that developing countries should agree to undertake nationally appropriate mitigation actions, reflects the enormity of the global challenge to limit global warming to 2°C (or 1.5°C which is the position of PICs) and that action by developed countries alone will not achieve this.
This report was prepared by the ESCAP. This publication was prepared under the overall guidance of Iosefa Maiava, Head, ESCAP Pacific Office. The lead authors were, listed alphabetically, Jillian Campbell, Shaswat Sapkota, David Smith, Helen Tavola, and Timothy Westbury.
This report was prepared by Peter Johnston. The document reports on the purpose of this assignment being to collect and compile the official country energy data for a forthcoming Energy Outlook and Databook for 14 Pacific developing member countries (PDMCs) of ADB1 in two phases: 1) phase 1 (one person-week) to collect the PDMC energy statistics available in Suva, Fiji Islands; and 2) phase 2 (three person-weeks) to fill the data gaps to the extent practical without visiting all countries and to analyze/interpret the data. The detailed Terms of Reference are attached as Annex 1.
This report was prepared by Theodore Levantis, Christine Groeger and Scott McNamara. The Pacific island countries rely almost exclusively on oil-based fuel for their energy needs. The recent surge in oil prices has exposed the vulnerability of these countries to the vagaries of world oil markets. The implications for import bills and for national incomes are considerable. This paper investigates these implications and explores measures for mitigating the impacts.
This report was prepared by Apruva Sanghi and Alan Bartmanovich. The supply of liquid petroleum based fuel products in OECD countries is a competitive business, with multinational oil companies such as BP, ExxonMobil, Shell and Total competing with each other to generate profits. In the remote small-island states such as in the Pacific or Caribbean, fuel markets are considered too small to have such beneficial competition.
PEC Fund Profile for the Cook Islands. Updated & revised project profile for the Cook Islands
This report was prepared by the International Institute for Energy Conservation for the Asian Development Bank.
The project is being implemented by the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) over a 3-year period starting from November 2011. This report was prepared to outline initial baseline data on energy use in the five PDMCs based on the Output 1 activities (data compilations and initial surveys)undertaken in each country from January to September 2012.
This record captures a series of monthly price review documents for 2016. These price reviews are prepared by SPC Petroleum Advisory Service. Reviews are based on analysis of daily Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) and also includes benchmark Saudi Aramco LPG prices (sourced from Gas Energy Australia).
