This report was prepared by the UNDP. GHD was commissioned by UNDP to:
» Undertake data validation;
» Estimate site specific wind resource potential as well as estimate the overall wind resources for Upolu;
» Assess suitable wind turbines for installation in Samoa and determine willingness of turbine manufacturers to participate in a project;
» Prepare very preliminary generation prediction for a 25 MW grid connected wind farm at the monitoring site in Afulilo to indicate the commercial potential; and
This poster was prepared by Herbert Wade, Edward Langham, Thomas Jensen, Bruce Clay and Joseph Walter. Apolima is a small island that is a part of Samoa, an island nation located in the central pacific. With current high fuel prices solar power is an economically reasonable alternative to diesel generation and the Apolima island installation is the first of many PV powered mini grid systems that are planned for the Anglophone Pacific Region.
This report was prepared by David Wright. The purpose of this report is to assist Samoa and its development partners to make sound decisions on the substantial capital investment and ongoing operating costs involved in renewable energy; ensuring that such investment is both environmentally and economically sound, delivering long term reliable and sustainable energy solutions to the country.
This report was prepared by Julia McDonald, Joe Wookyeung and Phillippe McCracken. In recent years there has been increasingly compelling evidence that anthropogenic climate change not only threatens the biophysical environment but it also increases potential vulnerabilities of the people and the socio-economic structures and activities. Like many pacific island states, Samoa is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and as a non-Annex 1 country is taking steps toward implementing the agreed objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
This report was prepared by Murray Ward and Bill Rucks. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment’s Renewable Energy Division, under the auspices of the Joint Water Sector Steering Committee (JWSSC), conducted this feasibility study on the production of biogas through anaerobic digestion from household sewage and green waste as an alternative method of on-site waste management that will improve sanitation while also providing a useful energy source for domestic household use in the Vaitele peri-urban area.
This report was prepared by the Government of Samoa. The National Infrastructure Strategic Plan (NISP) outlines the Government’s priorities and strategic directions for major initiatives in the economic infrastructure sector over the next 5-10 years.
This report was prepared by Simon Franklin, Julia McDonald and Oliver Woldring. This report describes a least-cost electricity generation plan for Samoa. It is intended to inform electricity sector planning decisions and describe the path toward achieving 100 per cent reliance on renewable electricity. Report was commissioned by New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade as part of the Pacific Energy Summit.
This report was prepared by Ma. Luisa A. Zuniga Carmine. Final Report March 2006. Funded by the Asian Development Bank. The purpose of the regional technical assistance (TA) is to promote investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas abatement (REGA) technologies that will increase access to energy by the poor, realize other strategic development objectives, and help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This is a follow-up TA to a desk study conducted in 2004 that included Samoa.
This report was prepared by the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) for the Asian Development Bank. Final Report March 2014.
This report was prepared by the UNDP and World Bank Energy sector assessment program. Report of the Joint UNDP/World Bank Energy Sector Assessment Program. 1985 report.
PREA 1991 report funded by the World Bank.
This report was prepared by Murray Ward. In developing its National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA), nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs) and a strategy for low carbon development, Samoa’s approach is consistent with the AOSIS group’s deep concerns about climate change and its international positions. Samoa is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
This report is based on data gathered by the National Technical Expert, Ms Talalelei Tevita together with the assistance of Ms Sili’a Kilepoa Ualesi, the National PREGA Coordinator as well as additional inputs from members of the PREGA Committee. Data from which this report is based, was collected from various government departments at various times since initiation of the contract in November 2002 until the reopening of the programme for Samoa in May 2004.
This report was prepared by Ma. Luisa A. Zuniga- Carmine a consultancy for the ADB.
This feasibility assessment has been prepared for New Zealand Aid Programme. The feasibility assessment is to assess the long-term feasibility of a proposed coconut oil extraction and biodiesel processing plant to fuel electricity generation on Savai'i and to recommend actions that would be required to ensure its long-term effectiveness.
This report was prepared by Herbert Wade, Bruce Clay and Mewang Gyeltshen. The intended outcome of this preparatory phase is a detailed grid extension and off-grid renewable energy based rural electrification program to provide the remaining non-electrified households in Samoa with 24-hour power. As part of this preparatory phase a consultancy was undertaken for household survey design, surveyor training design, survey analysis, a feasibility study and preparation of a Project Document for completion of electrification in Samoa.
This report was prepared by Murray Ward and Bill Rucks with additional economic analysis by Chris Livesey and this report was prepared for the Samoa Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The Tafa’igata facility is built primarily to receive septage but also to receive certain sludge from other sources.
This report was prepared by Herbert Wade and Kenneth Bulehite. This report is provided in support of the Asia-Pacific Regional Energy Programme for Poverty Reduction (REP-PoR). Report prepared for Winrock as part of the REP-PoR policy study on ‘Policy Study on Regional Mapping of Options to Promote Private Investments in Alternative Energy Sources for the Poor’.
The Inception report was prepared by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Electricity supply in the Solomon Islands is provided to less than 20 % of the population. Almost all generation is based on imported diesel fuel. Apart from this high dependence on external supply, the country also faces challenges in the development of the energy sector, including maintaining reliability, ensuring commercial viability of the power utility SIEA and increasing access to modern energy supply.
This report was prepared by the Government of Solomon Islands. The national energy policy framework sets out the government's policies for the planning and mangement of the energy sector over the next 10 years. Energy is an intergral part of our daily life. It is the foundation of our economy and it provides comfort and conveniences. Yet energy and its availability are often taken for granted.
