This handbook is meant for households who are interested in lowering high costs of energy sources for cooking purposes for their families. High costs of using kerosene and gas stoves for cooking will not build family resilience to the impacts of climate change. Likewise, on the consumption of imported foods, which are increasingly expensive. Having a biogas stove for cooking at home has been proven in Tuvalu to reduce household expenses for cooking using kerosene and gas stoves by 82% and 92% respectively (Binney, 2015).

Abstract

This paper looks at the fuel pricing structure in Fiji for unleaded petrol and diesoline. It examines the components of the final retail prices, and shows that there is a component which remains unexplained by the pricing template used in Fiji. This component could be said to reflect the oligopoly rent which oil companies in Fiji are deriving.

Press Statement released by the Commerce Commission known as Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC) on 21st October 2010.

On 24th of May, 2010, the Commission formally received an application [submission] from the Fiji Electricity Authority (hereinafter referred to as “FEA”, to implement an average 8.82 cents per unit tariff increase for electricity use. At that time, FEA’s weighted average tariff rate was 25 cents. Following a thorough examination, Commerce Commission decided to undertake a review of the tariff rates in two phases.
