The Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission, SOPAC, carried out a marine survey for south coast of Viti Levu, Fiji, from Nasalei (Suva) to Momi (Nadi) from 03/05/03 to 01/07/03. The object was to investigate the seabed and provide information about water depths around the islands using a Multibeam echosounder (MBES).
High-resolution swath mapping, using multibeam echo sounder was used to delineate the seabed morphology around Sissano.The resultant data was used to produce bathymetry charts and the Sissano Bathymetry chart is available for download from its appropriate link under Distribution Info.
This report provides a technical description of the Tongan marine survey. Where multibeam data was collected for the two islands of Tongatapu and Niuafoou, this data set includes the Basin A area north of Nukualofa and a single beam survey of Tongatapu's Fangauta lagoon, as this was identified as major interest areas during a stakeholder consultation exercise conducted in late 2002 (SOPAC, 2002).SOPAC has implemented a project Reducing Vulnerability of Pacific ACP states with funding secured from the European Union (EDF8).
This record holds the bathymetry chart of seabed around the island of Niuafoou. The chart is the result of the multibeam bathymetry survey that was undertaken by the Applied Geoscience and Technology Division (SOPAC) of SPC over a period of 5 weeks from 31 of January to the 01st of February 2004 in Niuafoou. The surveyed area extends from the coast to approximately 10 km offshore. Water depths within the surveyed area ranged from 10 to 1500 m offshore and between 0 to 7 m within the lagoon.

Niulakita is the southern-most as well as the smallest and most isolated island, located in the southern part of the EEZ of Tuvalu.
