Committing to Sustainable Waste Actions in the Pacific” (SWAP) Project aims to improve environmental, social, and
economic conditions in Pacific Island countries and territories through proper waste management. Funded by the
Agence française de développement (AFD), this work stemmed from an awareness of the increased pressure from
development and population growth, and the impact of increasing and changing waste streams for Pacific Island
Countries and Territories (PICTs).
In collaborating with partner governments and local authorities, support is targeted to meet the needs on the ground. In the Solomon Islands, there is an identified need to improve waste disposal sites, with a focus on rehabilitation and/or climate proofing to reduce environmental and social impacts.
SWAP has funded this Scoping Study to scope the most appropriate interventions to be undertaken to improve landfills management in the Solomon Islands.
