This dataset shows the global distribution of coral reefs in tropical and subtropical regions. It is the most comprehensive global dataset of warm-water coral reefs to date, acting as a foundation baseline map for future, more detailed, work. This dataset was compiled from a number of sources by UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and the WorldFish Centre, in collaboration with WRI (World Resources Institute) and TNC (The Nature Conservancy).

Results for the Solomon Islands have been presented to the marine experts and government of the Solomon Islands for review.

MACBIO is a project that supports sustainable economies and livelihoods of Pacific Island Countries by strengthening institutional and individual capacity, to manage and conserve biodiversity in marine and coastal ecosystems. The overall scope of this report is to describe the major habitats and marine life in the project area, with the aim of providing relevant information for future development projects. Past development activities in the project area include dredging operations in the nearshore reef area and the installation of a wastewater discharge pipeline in Gataivai. This is the first known comprehensive biological assessment undertaken in the area.
