The coastal component of the Pacific Regional Oceanic and Coastal Fisheries Development Programme (PROCFish/C) conducted fieldwork in four locations around Samoa in June 2005 and August/September 2005. Samoa is one of 17 Pacific Island countries and territories being surveyed over a 5–6 year period by PROCFish or its associated programme CoFish (Pacific Regional Coastal Fisheries Development Programme).

This followed previous work funded by the MacArthur Foundation at six locations in the Kingdom of Tonga in November and December 2001, and March to June 2002 under “The joint application of demography and ecology in evaluating the role of coastal fisheries resources in Pacific Islands: the DemEcoFish project”.

The Global school-based student health survey (GSHS) is a collaborative surveillance project designed to help countries measure and assess the behavioural risk factors and protective factors in 10 key areas among young people aged 13 to 17 years. The GSHS is a relatively low-cost school-based survey which uses a self-administered questionnaire to obtain data on young people's health behaviour and protective factors related to the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children and adults worldwide.

This is the tenth census undertaken by the Statistics Office, the first being in 1971, and it has been held every five years ever since.

The census counts all persons present in the Cook Islands on the census night of the 1st December 2016, including visitors temporary in the country. Cook Islanders who are living or are temporarily on vacation abroad are excluded.

The overall scope of this report is to describe the major habitats and marine life in the project area, with the aim of providing relevant information for future development projects. Past development activities in the project area include dredging operations in the nearshore reef area and the installation of a wastewater discharge pipeline in Gataivai. This is the first known comprehensive biological assessment undertaken in the area.

This Phase 1 Draft report was prepared in accordance with the May 7, 2014, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (Service) Planning Aid Letter (PAL), Scope of Work (SOW) and Budget for assisting the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHA) and the American Samoa Department of Public Works (DPW) with a marine resource and impact assessment associated with installation of shoreline protection structures to stabilize highway roadbeds.
