The objectives of these regulations are to;
* prescribe a protected area for the terrestrial and marine resources of the Phoenix islands.
* prescribe particular licences and permits for regulating certain activities in the Phoenix Islands Protected Area and to establish a schedule of penalties for all activities affecting the Phoenix Protected Area
* implement the Cabinet decision of approving the nomination of the Phoenix Islands protected Area to the World Heritage Committee

Maximizing benefits from the ocean - Tarawa serves as a good example of the perceived values of the ocean.
Marine Spatial Planning is an integrated and participatory planning process and tool that seeks to balance ecological, economic, and social objectives, aiming for sustainable marine resource use and prosperous blue economies.
This atlas is part of MACBIO’s support to its partner countries’ marine spatial planning processes. These processes aim to balance uses with the need to effectively manage and protect the rich natural capital upon which those uses rely.
The MACBIO project provides technical support in identifying and highlighting the values of marine and coastal resources and their ecosystem services. Once values are more visible, governments and stakeholders can plan and manage resources more sustainably, and maintain economic and social benefits of marine and coastal biodiversity in the medium and long term.
The main recommendation in this report was to launch a pilot project similar to the successful “Kaoki Mange Project” to collect what so far being produced as e-waste and to evaluate the viability of the project in its long term approach.

This document is a summary given drought occurs in Abaiang after long periods of low rainfall. In some villages, this causes fresh well water to turn brackish and this impacts communities and individuals ability to access fresh water and maintain their health and livelihood. Drought occurs at different times in each village depending on their vulnerability to drought.
This update retains essential still-current information from the 1993 edition, introduces data that have become available subsequently and adds several new categories of information.
In this study, data was collected from various sources, including the National Statistical Office, Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Kiribati National Tourism Office, Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Division, Public Utilities Board. A survey of a stratified sample of about 10% of households across each of the South Tarawa villages was also conducted.
This report is based on official trip made to Onotoa early this year 2014. The trip involved collecting information (updated) on sites, workshop and myna trap construction and destroying feeding and nesting areas.
