This dataset is related to the "Traditional Diet" indicator. This indicator assesses the role of traditional diets, in particular their contribution to human health. In the survey report on food security conducted in Honiara City Market the main groups of dietary diversity found were: Beans/Legumes, Fruits, Gourds, Leafy Greens, Nuts, Root Vegetables, Poultry and Seafood. Most fruits are sourced from East and West Guadalcanal, followed by Savo Island, however Fruit from Nggela is heavier. Seafood is mostly coming from ‘Other’ places, including Western Province. T

The impacts of climate change and human activity are the main contributing factors to the declining production of food and food security. The Marshallese people have long been cultivating the land for food, medicinal and other traditional purposes. The Ministry of Resources and Development (R&D) has a
programme to restock livestock and food crops for national food security. Over 2,800 types of plants were distributed on most of the outer islands, as well as Majuro.

The sector plan provides policy guidelines and direction for the Agriculture Sector to implement programs that will focus on the needs related to increasing agriculture productivity. The Sector Plan also provides a clear direction to the sector to align its objectives in a well-coordinated and integrated approach. This report presents the main results derived from the analysis of the food data collected in the 2019/20 HIES to inform current patterns on food and nutrient consumption in Marshall Islands. The analysis of the food insecurity experience scale data collected in the 2019/20 HIES reveals that more than one household in three is experiencing moderate or severe levels of food insecurity, which means they are lacking money or other resources to access foods in enough quantity or of good quality.
