 Workshop

A five year strategic plan that entails the work of the Protected Areas Network covering a span of tasks from ridge to reef.  The strategic plan is reflected in the work of each PAN state in the workplans produced by state PAN Coordinators or managers that oversee the operations within all PAN sites.  Strategies regarding enforcement of marine protected areas and terrestrial PAN sites, state coordinator roles and responsibilities as well as the rangers duties and responsibilities are all incorporated into the plan.

At the fourth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI 4) of the Convention on Biological Diversity
(CBD), the Parties selected 18 regional organisations spanning the globe in a multilateral push to bolster the
implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, also known as the Biodiversity Plan,
through science, technology, and innovation. These centres will bring the Parties to the CBD closer to halting and

Henderson island, a World Heritage Site in the Pitcairn group, south-central Pacific Ocean, has often been thought to have a pristine vegetation. Our archaeological investigations and field observations in 1991-1992, supported by recent observations in
1997, suggest the occurrence of former areas of Polynesian cultivation near to the North and East Beaches, and indicate that about 17 non-native vascular plant taxa have occurred.

The Gilbert Islands are a north-south chain of low coral islands, lying across the equator at about 172°-177° E longitude. The atolls, from north to south are Little Makin, Butaritari, Marakei, Abaiang, Tarawa, Maiana, Kuria, Aranuka, Abemama, Nonouti, Tabiteuea, Onotoa, Beru, Nikunau, Tamana, and Arorai. They are densely populated, and were under British Colonial Government until 1979, when they were granted independence, and now are the principal archipelago in the new republic of Kiribati.
