The SOPAC Petroleum Databank covers the seabed areas of Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. A lot of this data was gathered in the 1980s under the SOPAC Tripartite Project, involving USA, Australia and New Zealand.
The seismic reflection data gives geoscientists the opportunity to assess the nature and configuration of the strata below the exploration vessel, and the SOPAC Databank is a critical information base for countries and petroleum exploration companies with business interest in the region. The SOPAC Petroleum Databank provides a critical information base for countries and petroleum exploration companies with business interest in the South West Pacific region. The collection includes the maps of exploration lines, as well as the seismic sections from the exploration companies, scanned maps such as structural maps, prospect summary maps, geochemical maps, geological maps, bathymetry maps, magnetic intensity maps and gravity maps. The collections of reports include geophysical reports, well reports and the geological survey maps. All of these have been scanned and catalogued in the updated data catalogue for each of the four countries.
