Tuvalu, Nui, Bathymetry dataset

This record holds the Bathymetry datasets of the offshore areas of Nui Atoll island in Tuvalu. The dataset are in XYZ text delimited format . Nui is a N-S elongated atoll island approximately 8.1 km long and 2.5 km wide, centred on 7 degrees 13'S and 177 degrees 9'E.
The surveyed area extends to an average of approximately 5.0 km offshore, however, there is a 500 m-wide swath with no coverage, at a distance of approximately 2.5 km from the shoreline. The datasets are available for download from the Distribution Info section of this record with permission from the Secretariat. This work was initiated by the SOPAC/EU Reducing Vulnerability of Pacific ACP States Project (Task no.: TV 1.1.1).To provide a descriptive picture of the ocean bottom terrain, vividly revealing the size, shape and distribution of underwater features, and serve as the basic tool for scientific, engineering, marine geophysical and environmental studies, as well as marine and coastal resource management.

The intent of these data is to make high-resolution bathymetry available to the public for a

wide variety of uses such as research and earth science analysis. These data are not intended to be used for navigationThe water depth within the survey area around Nui ranges from 2.5 to 2466.5 m. The atoll of Nui is surrounded by a scarp with a depth to the headscarp of approximately 100 m, and a headscarp height of 80 m.
