The report relates to the scientific programme of the R/V Kilo Moana, a US flagged science vessel belonging to the office of Naval Research and operated by the University of Hawaii. The cruise took place in 2007 along a transect from Hawaii to Australia, and was designed to understand the genetic and physiological diversity of Prochlorococcus, the most abundant marine photosynthetic organism, in the Western Pacific Ocean.
