Community fisheries management (CFM) has been introduced in fisheries management in Vanuatu almost over a decade ago. However, more than ten years later, for some reason, it appeared weak, inefficient and biologically unsustainable. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to describe and compare the actual form of CFM system in Vanuatu with the Arnason design principles to identify where the deviations reside and on that basis suggest future improvements in the Vanuatu CFM.
This dataset holds two reports related to O le Pupu Pu'e National Park ;
Report one is a summary of the community consultations held on December 11, 2015 to discuss the draft operational plan for the restoration of the O le Pupu Pu’e (OLPP) National Park. The restoration of the OLPP NP is a key activity in the Management Plan for the park.
Report two summarises a review of existing information on the invasive species in the park and to present the results of a short survey of invasive species conducted in the park from Nov 19 to Dec 1, 2015.
A completion CEPF project report - The project was designed to address the threats posed by two invasive alien species Pacific Rat Rattus exulans and Yellow Crazy Ant Anoplolepis on the islands of Nu'utele and Nu'ulua.
Under the GEF- funded project, ‘Integrating climate change risk in the Agriculture and Health Sectors in Samoa’ (ICCRAHS), this report was developed as requested by UNDP on behalf of MNRE, follows a two-day ‘Sector Engagement Workshop’ for MNRE and other Ministry staff. The report:
• summarises key ideas and responses from workshop participants which point to developments in climate services that are needed to fully engage users and enable improved decision making in Samoa;
The main objective of this study were to;
* map the bathymetry of Vaiusu bay dredge sites
* deploy instrumentation to measure water levels ad existing current regimes
* provide an estimate on volumes of materials to be excavated for marina and access channels
Preparation of the restoration plan for the OLPP NP, as well as the community consultation were funded under the GEFPAS (Global Environment Facility - Pacific Alliance for Sustainability) Regional Invasive Species Management Project
This report supports and complements a separate operational plan for the restoration of the OLPP National Park (Atherton 2015).

The National Livestock Policy covers key issues relating to: farm animal genetic resources, livestock nutrition, feeds, farm inputs, animal diseases and pests, livestock marketing, food safety, quality assurance, research, extension and food security. The National Water Policy has defined seven priority areas for the Government of Vanuatu to strengthen water safety and security for all. The National Water Resources Advisory Committee (NRWAC) has been established under the Water Resources Management Act to guide the Director of the Department of Water Resources (DoWR) in the development of the National Water Policy.
This National Policy is the culmination of several years of research, consultation, policy design and building on lessons learned through the work of committed technical persons, Government Departments, Ministry of Lands, Ministry of Internal Affairs along with the support of key Donor partners.
This policy aims to guide land use planning by setting priorities and outlining legislative and institutional settings to enable land use planning that encourages the best current use of our land resources and at the same time allowing for future generations equitably benefit from the same resources. This policy can be regarded as a framework for land use planning, which is clearly emerging as a critical tool in our country's development.
Vanuatu’s National Energy Road Map (NERM) was considered and endorsed by the Council of Ministers in 2013. The NERM is the policy framework for developing the energy sector in Vanuatu. The NERM identified five priorities for the energy sector: access, petroleum supply, affordability, energy security, and climate change. It set out objectives, targets and actions to achieve these priorities and contribute to the NERM’s overall vision.
The information and data gathered from these waste audits will be used by countries in the Pacific to support the development and monitoring of waste and resource recovery projects and recommend the infrastructure and policy interventions required. The regional dataset will also be used to identify and evaluate potential regional projects that would improve waste management in the region.
This report presents the findings of the landfill audit undertaken for Vanuatu. The methodology applied for this landfill audit was as per the Waste Audit Methodology – a step-by-step manual to conduct comprehensive waste audits in SIDs, produced by PRIF.
The waste audit was undertaken with support from Port Vila Municipal Council and Luganville Municipal Council in close collaboration with APWC (remotely) supporting the delivery of the waste audit and other key stakeholders. The audit took place from 9 to 30 October 2020 and the results are presented in this report.

This report was commissioned by the Pacific Ecosystem-based Adaptation to Climate Change Project (PEBACC) – an International Climate Initiative (IKI) project implemented by SPREP in conjunction with the Government of Vanuatu. The project advocates ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) as a cost-effective and appropriate response to climate change in Pacific island countries.
