This report describes a high-resolution bathymetric mapping survey of the seabed surrounding the island of Efate in Vanuatu, by the Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission
(SOPAC). The survey was carried out over a period of 25
days in August 2003, resulting in the acquisition of over 600 line kilometres of MBES data.
The resultant compilation was used to produce
bathymetry charts of Efate at scales of 1 : 100 000 and 1 : 50 000, with more detailed charts of
Mele Bay, Forari Bay and Havannah Bay at 1 : 20 000.

 Pacific Data Hub

A high-resolution bathymetric mapping survey of the seabed surrounding the island of Efate in Vanuatu. This bathymetric map is a blend of multibeam (MBES), and singlebeam (SBES) echosounder data. All slope angles exceeding 60 degrees (degrees from horizontal) were interpreted as scarps. Any Inclined area of the seafloor that was laterally confined by distinctive slopes, with or without an upslope headscarp, was interpreted as a channel.

The 3 reports and 3 manuals contained here are the result of the training and symposium organised by the Korean Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources(KIGAM). This is part of the UNDP national project on, "Coastal Geological Mapping of Savaii Island, Samoa" Capacity building program.
Training session of two weeks were conducted in each year during the project. The symposium consists of oral presentation sessions and two days of field excursions.

This project was supported by the Ministry of Science Technology together with UNDP.

The Cooperative Study on the Deep sea Mineral Resources in Selected Offshore Areas of the SOPAC Region, 1991, Sea Area of the island of Western Samoa. The area was selected in accordance with the joint study program for deep sea mineral resources in the EEZ of the SOPAC member countries agreed upon by the Japanese executing agency and the South Pacific Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) on March 3, 2000. By the survey, seafloor topographic maps and acoustic reflectivity data by Multi Narrow Beam Echo Sounder (MBES) of thirteen seamounts had been obtained, and sampling mainly by
