This publication presents information on coastal and offshore fisheries in the region. The information is broken down into resource categories, the major types of fishing, the important species, the status of those resources, and the fisheries management that occurs.
This Tuna Fishery Report Card provides high-level advice on the current status of Pacific tuna fisheries in relation to the goals, indicators and strategies adopted by Forum Leaders in 2015 in the Regional Roadmap for Sustainable Pacific Fisheries. The report card takes into account the work of the Taskforce on Increasing Economic Returns from Fisheries, which was established by the Forum Leaders to develop a programme that will deliver real results within 5 years. Economic indicators now reflect Taskforce-agreed targets.

Fishing has been major source of food, income, recreation activity, employment and various other economic benefits for the people of Pacific island countries and territories (PICTs). However with increases in population, urbanisation and development of fisheries, it has been realised that fisheries resources, although renewable are not infinite. They must be properly managed if their contribution to the nutritional, economic and social well-being of the growing population is to be sustained.
