The Cooperative Study on the Deep sea Mineral Resources in Selected Offshore Areas of the SOPAC Region, 1991, Sea Area of the island of Western Samoa.The area was selected in accordance with the joint study program for deep sea mineral resources in the EEZ of the SOPAC member countries agreed upon by the Japanese executing agency and the South Pacific Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) on March 3, 2000. The South Pacific Applied Geoscience Commission, SOPAC, carried out a marine survey for Samoa around the island of Savai'i and Upolu. The Bathymetric map of Samoa shows the chart bounds as blue boxes. The wave and current regime at three main locations mainly in the passage between the two islands (Apolima Strait) was also investigated.
This record holds the bathymetry chart of the Southern foreshore areas of Savaii, Samoa. The chart is the result of the multibeam bathymetry survey that was undertaken by the Applied Geoscience and Technology Division (SOPAC) of SPC around the islands of Upolu and Savai for the EU-SOPAC Samoa Survey. High-resolution bathymetric mapping survey was carried out ,resulting in the acquisition of over 2754 line-km of MBES data for the whole of Samoa Survey.
